Blackboard and Related Training Information for Faculty - Summer/Fall 2016
Complete BlackBoard/OPALS Training - Beginning in the Spring 2016 semester, the Course Development and Support Team
will only offer face-to-face Blackboard training sessions periodically throughout
the year or upon request by programs/schools (with a minimum of 6 participants). However,
we do offer a year-round fully online version of our Blackboard training. This delivery
mode will provide full Blackboard training, distributed in a semi-structured, facilitated
fully online course. Participants should expect to spend six to eight hours in training-related
activities and may take as long as needed to complete the training. This training
has rolling enrollments, permitting us to enroll participants continuously, upon request.
You do need to have a UHCL computer account (email and login) BEFORE we can enroll
you in the online training. To register, please contact Jenni Willis-Opalenik at email@example.com.
OPALS/Provisioning Assistance - Faculty members who require assistance with provisioning their existing Blackboard
courses or requesting new Blackboard courses should contact the Support Center or
a member of our Instructional Design staff to arrange for one-on-one training and
support. You may contact the Support Center by telephone at (281) 283-2828 or via
email at SupportCenter@uhcl.edu.
Collaborate Training - Due to technical issues with the current JAVA-based version of Blackboard Collaborate,
the Course Development & Support Team cautions faculty against using the tool for
the time being, unless you already have considerable experience using the product.
Online web conferencing alternatives, such as Zoom, may better suit your needs until we are able to upgrade our Collaborate installation
in December 2016.
