About UHCL Pearland Campus
University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland Campus provides the residents of Pearland
and beyond an opportunity to expand their educational horizons through classes taught
by expert faculty. UH-Clear Lake administrators and city leaders broke ground for
UHCL Pearland Campus in May 2009, with classes beginning for students on Aug. 23,
A nationally accredited, upper-level university, UHCL partnered with the City of Pearland
to bring career-building higher education to the Pearland community. Through UHCL
Pearland Campus, area residents have access to exceptional academics and professionally
active faculty. Students can complete junior, senior and graduate courses in high-demand
disciplines such as business, education and psychology. As the off-campus instructional
facility grows, so will its program offerings.
UHCL Pearland Campus shares the 30,659-square-foot modern facility with Pearland Economic
Development Corporation, which occupies 8,043 square feet. The university’s space

Vice Chancellor for Planning and University Outreach Ed Hugetz meet with Pearland
Mayor Tom Reid, Pearland Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Fred
Welch and Pearland City Manager Bill Eisen to discuss higher education needs in the
UHS Board of Regents approves UHCL's request for the creation of a campus in Pearland.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approves UHCL's request to develop a new
campus in Pearland.
UHCL President William A. Staples presents City of Pearland the 2008 UHCL Community
Partnership Award for outstanding leadership and partnership.
Pearland City Council approves a design-build contract for construction of a 30,659-square-foot
building to house UH-Clear Lake Pearland Campus in 22,616 square feet and Pearland
Economic Development Corporation in the remaining 8,043 square feet.
Construction crews break ground at the future site of UHCL Pearland Campus, approximately
one mile south of Beltway 8 on Pearland Parkway near McHard Road.
The first scholarship endowment – the David and Stephanie Palmer Family Scholarship
Endowment – was created specifically for students who live in Pearland and are attending
UHCL Pearland Campus.
UHCL Pearland Campus officially opens to the public with a grand opening and ribbon-cutting
event. Classes begin at UHCL Pearland Campus with a student enrollment of 530.
The UHCL Pearland Campus Founding Collection of Art is unveiled during an artist reception.
UHCL Pearland Campus expands degree program offerings with the addition of the Bachelor
of Applied Science in Information Technology.
UHCL adds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to the UHCL Pearland Campus degree program
offerings. The program will begin in the fall 2014 semester.
