Part-Time Employee Manual
The following information is provided by the Office of Human Resources as a convenient
guide for non-benefits eligible (student workers), temporary/part-time employees of
the University of Houston-Clear Lake. This information should not be construed as
an employment contract nor does it create a property interest in employment. The
University of Houston System, and its components, reserve the right to change, amend,
or abandon any of the policies or procedures at any time. Nothing changes the employment-at-will
status of any employee, nor creates any additional rights, remedies at law, or expectation
of continued employment.

Background Checks: The University of Houston System is committed to promoting a safe and secure environment
at all of its component universities. The Background Checks for Employees policy (SAM 02.A.37) requires that all new hires pass a criminal background check.
This policy is applicable to all positions, including faculty and adjuncts, full and
part-time, permanent and temporary, as well as student employment in all university
programs, regardless of funding source.
Immigration and Naturalization Service: To comply with INS requirements, every new employee, before performing any work, must
appear in the Office of Human Resources with acceptable documentation to complete
the INS Form I-9 (not in this manual). A list of acceptable documents can be found

review each policy before completing Section 1.

University of Houston System Board of Regents
The University of Houston System Board of Regents Policy 49.01 requires certain statutes and policies to be distributed to all employees at the
start of each academic year and to all new employees at the time of employment.
21.03 Academic Freedom
Please read and complete each form carefully. Incomplete forms will be returned to
the hiring department and could result in delayed payment of salary. Upon completion
of each form in Section 1, print and submit to your hiring department.

Direct Deposit Program: Participation in the Direct Deposit Program is mandatory. Employees may select a
financial institution of their choice. Employees must complete a Direct Deposit form
or may enter this information directly into PASS. Employees who do not select their
own financial institution for direct deposit, will be required to agree to receive
pay via a debit card to be issued by Bank of America. Although not required, we encourage
all employees to take the form to their financial institution for completion of Section 4. Return the completed form to the Office of Human Resources. It generally takes two
pay periods after the form is received in payroll for direct deposit to begin.

SECTION 2: The following form is required ONLY if you are an active participant in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS),
through another participating agency. This may include another Texas state agency,
community college, or school district.
