About the Office
Welcome to the International World of the University of Houston-Clear Lake. With approximately
1400 international students from over 55 countries UHCL is ranked by the Institute
of International Education as one of the top 40 Master’s Institutions for international
students enrolled in the United States. The location of UHCL in the city of Houston,
with more than 80 consulates, offers an unprecedented opportunity where one can evolve
towards global citizenship. No matter where you’re from, Houston will feel like home!
This is a city known for its cultural diversity and hospitality. Whether you want
to explore or reconnect with familiar languages, news, music, cultural celebrations

As the one stop shop for all aspects of campus internationalization, OIAP offers a
wide array of services to its stakeholders. listed below is a brief description of
the services offered by the office:
International Admission: to help prospective international students with the admissions process. OIAP handles
all matters related to international admissions. Moving to another country to pursue
your education can sometimes be a daunting task. Our job is to make your transition
as easy as possible.
International Advising: serves current UHCL sponsored international students, dependents, and scholars (F-1
students and alumni, F-2 dependents, and J-1 exchange visitors). All immigration related
services such as the processing of immigration documents, government reporting, status
letters, change of status, and work authorization are handled by International Advising.
Study Abroad Programs: At UHCL, we are committed to helping students expand their global awareness. Study
abroad allows students to have the experiences that come with traveling abroad while
also enhancing their academic program. Students and faculty who are interested in
study abroad opportunities should contact OIAP to arrange an information meeting.
All students who participate in a study abroad program are required to complete the
University’s study abroad participation forms, purchase the University approved study
abroad health insurance, and attend a pre-departure orientation meeting.
New International Student Orientation programs: is offered prior to each fall, spring and summer semester and is mandatory for all
new international students. A comprehensive two day program is offered to all new
international students to the university. The orientation provides information regarding
health insurance, visa regulations, cross-cultural adjustment, transition to college,
negotiating campus setting, academic and peer advising. Airport pickup services are
offered for first time international students.
International Academic Agreements: all international articulations and agreements are managed through the office.
