Program Descriptions

Psychology
Undergraduate courses focus on the advanced study of human behavior from cognitive, developmental and behavioral aspects. Our successful graduates enter a variety of professions in human services organizations, as human resource professionals in industry, as junior college instructors, and as research assistants. Managers and supervisors can enrich their understanding of human behavior providing them with the skills necessary to better administer the human resource capital in their corporation. A number of UHCL graduates go on to further higher education to pursue medical or doctoral degrees.

General Behavioral Sciences
The study of Behavioral Sciences at UHCL follows an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing the fields of anthropology, psychology and sociology. Students learn how to analyze and research complex problems, how to write effectively, speak intelligently, and think critically. Courses will be offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Graduates of this program are well prepared for administrative work in the human-services field; in sales, marketing, and customer relations positions in business and industry; in law enforcement; in medical research positions or as medical school applicants.

Criminology
The criminology program prepares students for careers in law enforcement, criminal justice and corrections agencies (police officers, probation officers, social workers, etc.), in social service or in preparation for law school.

Business Administration
Courses will be offered at the undergraduate level (junior and senior level classes) that can be applied to to a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Coursework will give students a solid working knowledge of major business areas and how these areas relate and integrate in planning and decision-making. Students will learn to identify problems, define solutions, target opportunities and make recommendations that positively impact the bottom-line.

Healthcare Administration
Healthcare is one of today’s most dynamic and growing fields, with a wide range of opportunities and challenges. Our Healthcare Administration program is designed to prepare students to assume administrative responsibility in healthcare institutions in both the public and private sectors. The academic curriculum is rigorous with numerous field projects and experiences, extensive student activities and classes in healthcare as well as business. Many of the courses are web-supported. There has been 100% placement for over five years. Most students are placed in residencies in nationally recognized medical centers such as Memorial-Hermann Healthcare System, St. Luke’s Healthcare System, M.D.Anderson Cancer Center, and many more. Approximately 60% of our active alumni hold positions in Senior Management.
