Study cultural diversity – past and present; gain new ways of looking at your own society and its place in the world; learn methods of participant observation, interviewing, life history, and archaeological excavation.
Undergraduate Major
Majors take 18 hours in anthropology in addition to general requirements for behavioral sciences. Coursework presents a cross-cultural perspective on such topics as religion, ethnicity, politics, economics, gender, and family relations and provides an overview of contemporary societies of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. No prior coursework in Anthropology is required. Students can enter the program through the 2+2 or other transfer plans. For admissions information contact:

Anthropology majors conducting research with a UHCL faculty member may apply to the Mary Hodge Research Endowment for financial support.

| Research |
| Anthropology majors have participated in a variety of research projects. Students have engaged in excavations at the Lake Jackson State Archaeological Landmark site in Brazoria County, conducted field research in the Houston area, and analyzed archaeological data from the upper Texas Gulf Coast region. |
| Student Organization |
| The Cross-Cultural Studies/Anthropology student group as well as a variety of other student organizations plans a variety of activities including guest speakers and films. |
