The Family Therapy Program at UHCL offers the M.A. degree and provides academic coursework and clinical training and supervision that prepares students for careers as creative, caring, and culturally competent family therapists. The Family Therapy Program emphasizes the importance of the self of the therapist and provides trainees opportunities to gain an awareness of and sensitivity to how gender, ethnicity, class, and other factors shape our worldview and influence how we approach therapy with our clients.
Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) since 1983, the master's program is 58 credit hours, featuring courses in family therapy theory, psychotherapy practice, psychopathology, assessment, family research, ethics, minorities and majorities, a two-semester practicum, and a one-year internship placement in the greater Houston community.
