Study of Behavioral Sciences at UHCL follows an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing the fields of anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Students seeking a Behavioral Science degree take courses in each of these disciplines and also select a specific concentration in the graduate program. We offer the Bachelor of Sciences and the Master of Arts in Behavioral Sciences.
Any Behavioral Science major can earn a concentration in Woman Studies by taking any three courses under the Women's Studies rubric. Women's Studies courses offer students a chance to explore how familiar notions of race, class and gender work together to reproduce privilage and poverty in the U.S. and beyond. Undergraduate Program (Bachelor of Science)
The BS degree program allows students to combine anthropology, psychology, and sociology according to their interests and goals. The rationale for this combination is based on the belief that human behavior is complex and three disciplinary approches can be benificial to understanding it. However, students who wish to focus their studies on one discipline may do so. Students may choose degree concentrations in:

In addition to these on-campus programs, UHCL offers courses toward a BS in Behavioral Sciences-General at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Ramsey Unit to inmates.
There are 28 faculty who teach in these programs. Their research and teaching interests range from biopsychology to multicultural diversity, and include the application of this knowledge to human behavior. Students who complete the BS degree are eligible to apply for a wide range of jobs in human services and are well prepared for consideration to graduate schools.

Graduate Program (Master of Arts)
The graduate program in Behavioral Sciences-General is a vehicle for advanced study of human behavior, and like its counterpart at the undergraduate level, encourages study in all three disciplines of anthropology, psychology, and sociology. At the graduate level, a student may also work with an advisor to develop a self-designed focus of study within the Behavioral Sciences-General track. Foci of study that have already been developed include:
- Neuropsychology, combining courses in psychology, fitness and human performance, biology or chemistry
- Industrial/Organizational (I/O) psychology, combining courses in the behavioral sciences with those in business and management.
- Women's Studies, combining courses in behavioral sciences with those in Women's Studies.
Applicants should have a strong undergraduate preparation in the behavioral sciences; those with less than twelve upper-level hours are required to take additional undergraduate course work at UHCL.
The same 28 faculty who comprise the undergraduate faculty also teach at the graduate level.
Students who complete the MA in Behavioral Sciences-General are well prepared to apply for administrative work within the human services field, including specific job-oriented concentrations such as I/O psychology for work in Human Resources. Often students who have concentrated in neuropsychology are prepared to work in medical research and are considered strong candidates for application to medical school.
