Graduate Students Admission Requirements

An applicant who has earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and who is eligible to return to the last institution attended may be accepted as a graduate student.  Prospective students wishing to pursue a master's program should refer to the catalog description of specific programs for degree program specific admission requirements.

Submit an Application for Admission in person, by fax, over the web, or by mail. There is an application fee required (see the application for more information). The application may be requested via our on-line form or completed now using our online application for admission.

Applications are for the specific term applied for. They may be updated up to one year from the original term applied for by filling out and submitting an application update request form. This should be submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services by the admission application deadline.

Admission to the university does not ensure admission to degree candidacy in an academic discipline. Admission to candidacy is a separate process and is accomplished by completion of an approved Candidate Plan of Study (CPS).

Graduate Test Examination Requirements

All new and former graduate students must provide scores on one of the following standardized tests scores to the Office of Admissions. Test results more than five years old are not valid. Scores must come directly from the testing agency. Applicants should contact the associate dean of the school to which they are applying to determine if there is an application deadline and how scores are considered in the admission process.

If tests are not required for admission to a specific school or program, student may enroll and be admitted on a conditional basis. They must take the appropriate test the first time that it is offered during their first term of enrollment. Students will not be allowed to register for subsequent terms until scores are received. Non-degree applicants are not required to submit standardized test scores as long as they remain in non-degree status.

Exemptions

The university will waive the graduate test score requirement for applicants with an earned doctorate from a U.S. institution, e.g. Ph.D. and Ed.D. Exemptions will be made by the university for applicants who have an M.D. degree and are licensed to practice in the U.S. The School of Human Sciences and Humanities will also exempt those students who have earned a J.D. degree from a U.S. accredited law school. The School of Business will exempt applicants who have earned a graduate degree from a business school accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). A Graduate Acceptance Committee of NAS may ask the Dean to exempt an applicant who has an earned graduate degree in an appropriate field of study from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
