Welcome, High School Guidance Counselors!

University of Houston-Clear Lake welcomed its first freshman class in fall 2014 and we are excited to partner with you to provide your students with the most up-to-date information about the freshmen admissions process. We value your role in helping your students explore their options to make the best decision for their future, and we hope to see some of your students join UHCL as the first groups of freshmen on campus.

This Guidance Counselor page is designed to help you directly access information specific to your high school students. Below you will find the most pertinent information regarding application deadlines, procedures, and requirements. High School Courses

UHCL recommends that applicants attending high school in Texas complete the Texas Recommended High School Plan or higher.

Required High School Coursework

English Language Arts: 4 Credits
Mathematics: 4 Credits
Science: 4 Credits
Social Studies: 4 Credits
Foreign Language 2 Credits
Physical Education 1 Credit
Speech 0.5 Creidt
Fine Arts 1 Credit
Elective Courses 5.5 Credits
Total 26 Credits or more

Students who graduate from a Texas high school under the recommended or advanced/distinguished high school curriculum will meet UHCL’s course requirements. Students who graduate from out-of-state high schools or from schools in Texas that do not participate in the recommended or advanced/distinguished program, including private schools and home schools, must meet the college readiness standards as defined in the Uniform Admission Policy and our minimum coursework requirements to be most competitive for admission. UHCL’s admission requirements are in compliance with Texas Education Code section 51.803 and are subject to change.

The State Board of Education adopted changes to the high school graduation requirements in January 2012. The new requirements are effective beginning with students who enter grade 9 in the 2012-2013 school year. View the new graduation requirements.
