Prepare for your major while still in community college.
You can take core and foundation classes for UHCL while still at your community college. Get in touch with one of our academic transfer advisers when you first start thinking about enrolling here, and we'll make sure that you take the courses you need. We review everything carefully to identify anything you missed. Then, we make sure that you take only the specific courses that you need for your bachelor's degree.
Core curriculum courses
Every major requires core curriculum courses for the bachelor's degree. “Core” courses might include writing, math, natural science, the humanities, visual and performing arts, and social and behavioral science. Unless you knew your UHCL major when you first enrolled at a community college, the courses you took for your associate's degree might not satisfy all UHCL requirements.
Foundation courses
Majors also require foundation courses before you can take advanced courses in your junior and senior years. Some of the majors have very specific requirements, while others give you a range of options.
If you haven’t finished these courses before you get to UHCL, your graduation may not be possible in two years. We'll review requirements for individual majors with you so that you complete the foundation requirements and move steadily toward your degree goal.
