Spring 2008

Student Email Information

STUDENT E-MAIL INFORMATION

Students admitted to UHCL are provided free e-mail accounts. The account is accessible to the student one year from the last long semester (fall or spring).

Please note, if enrollment is not maintained during the fall or spring semesters, the student will not be allowed use of the UHCL PCLAB computing laboratories and therefore must use the UHCL e-mail via the Web from a non-UHCL PCLAB computer. The exception to this rule is the summer semester. Access to UHCL PCLAB computers is based upon the student having registered and maintained enrollment in at least one class during the spring term. This statement means that the student does not have to register for a summer class to maintain access to the UHCL PCLAB computers as long as the student was enrolled and did not withdraw from the university nor drop all classes during the previous spring term.

A student’s e-mail account is based upon the student’s last name, the first character of the first name, and a random 4 digit number. As an example of an e-mail account, student Patrick Smith could have an e-mail account of “SmithP4569.” In addition, the student’s e-mail account is appended with
“@uhcl.edu.” Using the previous example, the e-mail address for Patrick Smith (SmithP4569) is SmithP4569@uhcl.edu. Related to the e-mail account is the NT userid. The NT userid allows students to use computing resources in the student PCLAB computing labs and the UHCL e-mail account. The NT userid is the same as the e-mail account. Using the above example, the NT userid for Patrick Smith would be SmithP4569. Students can determine what NT userid and e-mail box name by using the NT userid Lookup Tool.

The tool can be accessed from the following URL:
http://mypassportid.uhcl.edu/lookup.
To use the tool, follow these instructions:
1. Expand the page to full screen.
2. Enter your Social Security Number. If you do not have a Social Security Number or prefer not to use your Social Security Number, you can enter your last name OR enter your last name followed by a comma “,” and as many characters of your first name. Using the example name of Patrick Smith, acceptable name query formats are: “Smith,” “Smith, Patrick,” and “Smith, Pat.” NOTE: Do not enter the quotation marks.
3. Click on the “Submit” button. Matching name entries will be returned on the right side of the screen.
4. If your name is displayed, click on your entry. The screen will display a listing of userids that have been issued to you by UCT.
5. Locate the PCLAB System entry. The userid next to the PCLAB entry is your e-mail account and your NT userid. NOTE: If your name is not displayed, refine your query by re-entering your last name, the comma, and enter fewer characters of your first name OR enter in only your last name OR your Social Security Number for an exact match. If your name still does not appear in the name listing, wait 24 hours to allow additional processing to occur. If after 24 hours your name still has not appeared in the list, contact the UCT Support Center for assistance at 281-283-2828 or e-mail
supportcenter@uhcl.edu.

Instructions for accessing your e-mail account may be obtained at
http://webmail.uhcl.edu. Text instructions and video instructions are provided to assist you. Additional assistance can be obtained by contacting members of the UCT Support Center at 281-283 2828 or by sending an e-mail to: supportcenter@uhcl.edu.
