Spring 2008

Student Life Information

EXPAND YOUR EDUCATION
Student Government AssociationThe Student Government Association (SGA) meets every Tuesday during fall and spring semesters, in SSCB 1.100.  SGA meetings are open to all interested UHCL students.  This is a great opportunity to find out what’s going on around campus, discuss items of concern to students and to organizations, and provide student input to university administration.  Students are elected to university committees through the SGA, with elections in April and in August.  Elections for the four-member SGA Executive Council are held in the spring, with information and applications posted in February and elections held in April.

Student Leadership InstituteA service of the Student Life Office, the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) at UHCL offers opportunities for students to learn, develop, and sharpen their leadership skills as they prepare for their careers.  Programs include the Annual Student Leadership Conference (every November), a Leadership Workshop Series, Leadership Retreats, Dessert Dialogues (“fireside chats” with community leaders), Special Topics (Women and Leadership in March each year) and Community Outreach Day each semester.  SLI’s official newsletter, “Eye on Leadership,” published several times a semester, is your source for upcoming SLI events and news about UHCL’s student leaders.  SLI programs are open to all UHCL students, regardless of affiliation with existing leadership programs and organizations.

The 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008. For more information, visit our site at www.uhcl.edu/chilicookoff.
