Advising

Students are not required to meet with advisers prior to registration, but may do so if information is needed before selecting courses for the next semester. Advisers will be available for consultation during registration to advise students who will be registering. Undecided majors who have selected a school will be advised in that school. Enrolled students who are undecided as to their major or career choice may obtain career counseling from the Office of Career Services, 281-283-2590.

Students should also check with advisers to seek approval to register for courses that are controlled or require permission.

 

Availability of Courses

The university cannot guarantee that courses listed in the schedule will be available. Registration for a particular section will be permitted only until available classroom space has been filled. UHCL also reserves the right to cancel any course or section for which enrollment is insufficient, to make course splits, or make instructor changes where deemed necessary.

 

Directory Information

At its discretion, the university may provide directory information to include: student name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, verification of date and place of birth, major field of study, dates of attendance, courses attended, classification, hours enrolled, date of graduation, degrees and awards received, the most recent previous educational agency or institution attended by the student, participation in officially recognized activities and sports. Such information may be released by the university upon request by any party or via a publicly distributed directory without the student’s specific consent. Students wishing to exclude themselves from the issuance of directory-type information must make their desires known in writing to the Office of Academic Records no later than the fifth class day of each semester.

 

Disability

Any individual who requires a special accommodation for a specific disability should contact the Office of Disability Services at 281-283-2626, SSCB 1.301.

 

Emergency Closings

According to university policy, classes are held as scheduled. If severe weather should necessitate the closing of the campus, you may call the Emergency Hotline at 281-283-2221, stay tuned for updated reports from local radio and television stations such as KIKK-AM (650), KIKK-FM (95.7), KTRH-AM (740), KPRC-AM (950), KLVL-AM (1480), KHOU-TV (Channel 11), KPRC-TV (Channel 2) and KTRK-TV (Channel 13).

 

Emergency Contact

The University Police Office is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the event of an emergency, contact should be made through the University Police (281-283-2222) to reach students in class. Fax: 281-488-8585

Parking Permit Enforcement:

Parking permit enforcement will commence on the next day following the census date of each Fall and Spring semester as published by the Office of Academic Affairs on the Academic Calendar. For the Summer semester, parking permit enforcement will commence on the day following the census date of the longest summer session, regardless of which session to which you are enrolled. The longest session is normally the 9-week session.

 

After-Hours Access:

After-hours access to the various buildings and labs can only be granted by proper authority from the Dean’s Office of the school to which you are attending or from proper authority of the department that maintains the lab. PAN code forms can be obtained from the Police Department at any time.

 

Grades

Grade information can be obtained by accessing E-Services at:
http://www.uhcl.edu/records/eservices.

Grades are no longer automatically mailed each semester. Students needing a paper copy of their grades can request online through E-Services or in writing, a transcript at no charge through the Office of Academic Records. Requests can be faxed to 281-283-2530. An unofficial report can also be printed from E-Services.

Grades for Summer and Fall 2009 will be available through E-Services Online beginning July 22 (summer I), August 20 (summer II), and October 23 (fall 8-week I session) and December 21 (Regular and Second 8-week sessions).
