We infuse our program curriculum with input from industry, government, consulting and nonprofit organizations, ensuring that you receive the most comprehensive environmental knowledge and topical insight you need to excel in your career. Since its inception in 1974, our Environmental Management program has become one of the most respected in the nation, with hundreds of our alumni holding leadership positions in government, industry, consulting firms and non-profit organizations.


Our flexible curriculum meets the needs of full-time students as well as practicing professionals. Students can tailor the degree to their professional needs by selecting approved electives in fields such as geographical information systems, toxicology, industrial hygiene and environmental geology.


Get the practical knowledge you need with hands-on learning at the university’s Environmental Institute of Houston by participating in community outreach projects, internships and field research. As a UHCL student, you also have access to professional development through the Texas Association of Environmental Professionals and other organizations.

What Can You Do with a Degree in Environmental Management?

Environmental Management is a profession that is always in demand. The Houston-Galveston area is an ideal location to study environmental management and its large population, diverse industry base and multiple ports provide prime career opportunities for qualified graduates. Our program will enhance your marketability and prepare you for positions in hazardous waste management, permitting, risk management, environmental impact assessment, water resource management, and much more.

Our environmental management faculty are well-educated professors with a wealth of professional and practical experience, dedicated to providing sound environmental management principles in a hands-on environment. 90% of courses are taught by Ph.D’s and no courses are taught by graduate assistants.
