Course Description:

The multicultural management course is a journey around the globe to get a cross cultural perspective of management in the global business environment. It will help students understand the fundamentals of cultural convergence; divergence and equilibrium; role of language , religion, cultural norms, and other elements of national culture in developing a cultural framework for designing effective business practices and models.

Upon the completion of the course, students will be able to leverage their knowledge of cross-cultural management to evolve into rational decision makers, good negotiators, and effective global leaders.

HADM Students Receive Scholarships

On April 25, 2013 representatives from the academic affairs committee of the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) presented scholarship checks to two University of Houston-Clear Lake students. Healthcare Administration students Shovana Thulung and Jamil Aslam received a $250 scholarship and a $1,500 scholarship respectively.

The scholarship program is sponsored by HFMA for accredited Healthcare Administration and Healthcare Finance degree programs. Scholarship criteria include academic achievement, experience and interest in the healthcare finance area, leadership skills and involvement in HFMA. Applications require a student essay, a copy of the student’s transcript and a professor’s letter of recommendation.

2013 Faculty Fellowships

Congratulations to School of Business professor, Cynthia Heagy, who has been selected to receive a University Faculty Fellowship for the 2013-2014 academic year. According to President Staples, “the purpose of University Faculty Fellowships is to formally recognize the significant contributions of outstanding faculty to the success of our university.” Recipients of a University Faculty Fellowship receive a $5,000 stipend to be used for educational materials, research, travel to conferences and related items.

Healthcare Management Case Competition

The University of Houston-Clear Lake Healthcare Administration program competed in the 2nd Annual George McMillan Fleming Center for Healthcare Management Case Competition on April 6, 2013. The UHCL student team won second place in the competition which was hosted by the University of Texas Houston Leadership and Management Student Association. Advised by Dr. Jordan Mitchell, the UHCL case team consisted of: Christopher Johnson, Christopher Mathews, Rashid Ballouli and Laura Castellanos.
