TUCCC 2009 Conference Program
What’s Love Got to do with It?
Jamie Justus, LCSW University of Texas at Austin
This presentation will cover the development and implementation of a 6-week, coed, psychoeducation group at the University of Texas at Austin’s Counseling & Mental Health Center. The presentation will outline the topics used in the group, such as establishing boundaries, identifying relationship violence, developing communication skills, dealing with conflict, promoting sexual health, and breaking up. Feedback from participants about their own interpersonal growth will be discussed. In addition, the presenter will discuss the benefits of this type of group on a college counseling center on the basis of the desire students have to examine issues surrounding romantic relationships and in light of the prevalence of relationship violence and sexual violence on college campuses.
