Individual Personal Counseling

Currently enrolled students can meet individually with a counselor to discuss stress or personal matters. We address a variety of issues including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, family, relationship, loss/grief, substance use, body image & eating disorders.

Counseling is free and confidential. If interested, please call 281.283.2850 or stop by SSCB 3.103 to schedule an initial consultation appointment.

Group Counseling

In group counseling, 4-8 people meet with one or more counselors to talk about issues that they are facing. The group format provides opportunities for members to give and receive support and encouragement. There are a variety of groups to meet your needs.

Couples Counseling

UHCL Counseling Services offers couples counseling for students and their partners (partners may be non-students). Services are provided for students in any type of intimate relationship, regardless of gender or living arrangement.

For more information about couples counseling, contact our office. Please note that both members of the couple must be present at the intake appointment.

Academic Counseling

Many students experience difficulties with procrastination, time management, test anxiety, or other issues that impact their ability to perform well academically. Individual counseling can help you address these academic challenges and other school-related concerns.

Vocational Counseling and
Career Workshops

Students often have questions about which career will be most satisfying for them. Interests, skills, personality, work values, and job prospects can influence one’s choice of major as well as one’s long-term career path. Individual vocational counseling can help you negotiate the world of work and make career-related decisions so you can pursue and establish a career path that will be personally meaningful.

Career Workshops are conducted in a small group format to assist in self-exploration in order to make career decisions.

Self-Help Resources

We have a variety of online resources including free, anonymous screenings and guided activities. We also have an assortment of books, CDs, and other resources in our office that are available for checkout.

We provide workshops and presentations on a variety of topics that may be of interest to your student organization, campus group, or student services office. You can learn more about workshops or request a workshop/presentation online or in our office.
