Letter from the Training Director
Welcome to the UHCL Counseling Services Predoctoral Internship Webpages! We hope that you will consider us as an option for your predoctoral internship. We are excited to have our first cohort of interns for the 2012-2013 academic year and to be recruiting our second group of interns. Though this is our first official intern class, we have a 12 year history of training doctoral practicum students. Last year we received a five year grant from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health which provided the funding to expand that training to the predoctoral internship level, a long-awaited goal that we have been working toward. The grant is funding the internship during the development and accreditation process, and we have university support for it to be maintained after the grant period has ended.
We are an APPIC member site, and are currently writing our APA self-study with the goal of submitting that document to begin the APA accreditation process in the next two months. However, our program is not currently APA-accredited* and we cannot guarantee that the internship will ultimately be successful in attaining accreditation. We are extremely invested in continuing to cultivate a top-notch internship program, and have designed the program to meet all APPIC, APA, and Texas Licensure requirements.
It is our hope that you will take a look at our training philosophy and experiences and see if they might be a good fit for your needs. We consistently receive feedback from trainees that our investment in training, our developmentally-oriented high-quality supervision, and safe learning environment make our program stand out from other sites. We hope that our commitment to excellent training is as evident in our training program materials as we believe that it is when trainees meet us.
Our application deadline is Sunday, December 2, 2012 at midnight CST. We wish you the best of luck during this important process!
Cindy Cook
