UHCL Provides Distance Learning 3 Ways with 24 Programs

Classes are presented in a variety of formats that provide options for students (online, Web-enhanced and Face-to-face). We have many students selecting each of these options. You can choose the format that best fits your schedule and learning style. 

Choose the most convenient program for your schedule: Off-Campus Learning Centers, Online, or a combination of classroom and online.

Undergraduate Off-Campus Programs

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    The objective of the Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting is to provide basic conceptual accounting and business knowledge as a foundation for entry level positions in industry, financial institutions and non-profit organizations, as well as to provide a basis for further study to pursue a career in public accounting.

  • Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences - General (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    The study of Behavioral Sciences at UHCL follows an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses the fields of anthropology, psychology and sociology. Students learn how to analyze and research complex problems, write effectively, speak intelligently and think critically.
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Criminology (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    Our criminology courses focus on increasing students’ understanding of crime: why it occurs, how it is measured and how it might be controlled. If you are interested in entering the criminal justice system or simply want to advance your current career, UHCL Pearland’s program will help you succeed.
     
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Healthcare Administration (UHCL at Texas Medical Center)
    Our Healthcare Administration program, located in the Texas Medical Center, focuses on business skills, finance and reimbursement and operations. It is designed to prepare students to assume administrative responsibility in healthcare institutions in both the public and private sectors.

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Healthcare Services (UHCL at Texas Medical Center)
    This program is designed for students holding an associate degree in the allied health professions. The BAS curriculum will save the students valuable time and money, as well as prepare them to advance into an administrative position within their units of healthcare facilities.

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Information Technology (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    A BAS in IT emphasizes both theory and hands-on application. BAS-IT prepares students in a variety of careers such as systems administrator, network administrator, computer specialist, database manager, computer technician, computer security manager, computer systems manager, etc. within commercial, industrial, educational and government institutions. Graduates will be ready to design, implement and maintain the information technology infrastructure used in business management.

  • Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with EC-6 Generalist Certification (Early Childhood Concentration) (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    This program is designed to prepare elementary school teachers. We have been designated by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) as a Center for Professional Development of Teachers (CPDT). In collaboration with area school districts, we provide teacher preparation and professional development in partnership schools and promote integration of technology in public school instruction. Our candidates develop into outstanding educators who inspire and positively shape future generations.

  • Bachelor of Science in Management (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    Our Bachelor of Science in Management program emphasizes skills in project management, planning and scheduling, quality control, and planning and managing operations designed to produce either goods or services. Management careers are found in various sectors such as government, education, or private industry, and management positions are typically available in the retail, hotel/restaurant, banking and insurance industries.
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (UHCL Pearland Campus)
    University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) will be offering courses toward a BSN for nurses who hold an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited institution and a valid license to practice as an RN in Texas. The RN to BSN program is customized for those who want to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing to improve their managerial skills and advance as nurse managers.
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology (UHS-Sugar Land and UHCL Pearland Campus)
    Undergraduate courses focus on the advanced study of the cognitive, developmental and behavioral aspects of human beings. Our successful graduates hold a variety of positions within local service organizations and industries. They are human resource professionals, junior college instructors and research assistants—just to name a few!

  • Master of Counseling with School Counselor Certification (Alief Taylor High School and UHCL Pearland Campus)
    Students seeking this degree in Counseling may, depending on their career goals, select degree plans that meet the academic qualifications for the School Counselor Standard Certificate (EC-12) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
     
  • Master of Healthcare Administration (UHCL at Texas Medical Center)
    Our Healthcare Administration program is designed to prepare students to assume administrative responsibility in healthcare institutions in both the public and private sectors. The academic curriculum is rigorous with numerous field projects and experiences, extensive student activities and classes in healthcare as well as business.

  • Master of Healthcare Administration / Master of Business Administration joint degree  (UHCL at Texas Medical Center)
    Healthcare is one of today’s most dynamic and growing fields, with a wide range of opportunities and challenges. Our Healthcare Administration program is designed to prepare students to assume administrative responsibility in healthcare institutions in both the public and private sectors. The academic curriculum is rigorous with numerous field projects and experiences, extensive student activities and classes in healthcare as well as business. Many of the courses are web-supported.

  • Master of Science in Educational Management with Principal Certification (UHCL Pearland Campus; Alief Taylor High School; San Jacinto North Campus; and UH System at Cinco Ranch)
    This masters program prepares teachers for management positions in education at the local level as principals to district and state levels. The program provides a blend of academic and fieldwork experience aligned with state and national certification standards to address candidates' goals.   

  • Doctor of Education (EdD) Educational Leadership (UH System at Cinco Ranch and Fort Bend)
    This doctoral program provides extensive development in sound research and administrative practices so educational leaders thrive in current and future educational environments. From strategic planning, to dispute resolution, to program evaluation, the School of Education’s 30+ doctoral faculty members impart a broad scope of practical experience and theoretical knowledge.   

Online Programs at UHCL  

  • Bachelor of Criminology
    The criminology program prepares students for careers in law enforcement, criminal justice and corrections agencies (police officers, probation officers, social workers, etc.), in social service or in preparation for law school.
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Finance
    Our Bachelor of Science in Finance program emphasizes the technical knowledge and necessary skills to compete and succeed in the world of finance. This degree prepares graduates for multiple career opportunities in business and financial services such as: budget analyst, actuary, financial planner/advisor, insurance underwriter, financial manager and loan officer. 
     
  • Bachelor of Science in General Business
    Our Bachelor of Science in General Business program emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving, customer service and operations management, ethics and social responsibility, finance, marketing and sales, labor relations, and statistical analysis. This degree readies you for entry-level positions in many areas of the business world including financial services, banking, purchasing, sales and management.  
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology
    Undergraduate courses focus on the advanced study of human behavior from cognitive, developmental and behavioral aspects. Our successful graduates enter a variety of professions in human services organizations, as human resource professionals in industry, as junior college instructors, and as research assistants.  
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Public Service Leadership
    From firefighting and police work to government pursuits and even the world of nonprofits, the public service sector needs qualified leaders. UHCL’s Public Service Leadership program helps current public service employees like you develop the best tool set to problem solve and take on challenging leadership positions.  
     
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
    Our MBA program emphasizes leadership, problem solving, initiative, time management, team building, analytical ability, strategic thinking, and quantitative ability. Our MBA degree prepares graduates for a wide range of administrative, managerial, and professional positions in areas such as consulting, finance, general management, human resources, quality management, operations management and marketing. It also prepares graduates to function in large or small organizations, public or private, domestic or international.
     
  • Master of Science in Engineering Management
    The Engineering Management Program (EMGT) fits your demanding schedule. The program gives you the opportunity to earn an advanced degree in two years while you work full-time. The EMGT curriculum offers you an enhanced perspective on issues that affect the management of modern technology. The material gives you the tools you need to better manage your project, processes, personnel, products and services in real-world situations. From organizational behavior, management of organizations, and optimal decision making, to engineering economics, the coursework focuses on essential topics. Students with engineering and scientific backgrounds will find that this Master's degree suits their needs more closely than the traditional MBA.

  • Master of Science in Environmental Science - Online
    The online graduate plan in Environmental Science leads to the Master of Science (MS) degree. The plan seeks, through an interdisciplinary approach, to prepare students for opportunities in government, industry, and the private sector. Graduates of the plan may also be prepared to pursue further academic training in environmental sciences and related fields. This online program will be offered in Spring 2012.   • Master of Science in Finance
    The Master of Science in Finance program emphasizes technical knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in the finance profession. The degree prepares graduates for multiple career opportunities in business and financial management such as: analyst, auditor, bank officer, capital budgeting manager, cash manager, consultant, controller, credit manager, financial planning manager, financial reporting specialist, mortgage analyst, portfolio manager, project finance manager, risk manager, securities analyst, tax compliance manager, and Treasury Manager. Online courses have been developed by experienced faculty with the aid of instructional and web design professionals. The online instructors are the same faculty members who teach the face-to-face courses and are accessible to students virtually and in person. A healthcare administration concentration is available within this program. 
     
  • Master of Arts in Human Resource Management
    This plan allows students to prepare for careers in human resource management, personnel administration training and/or human resource planning. The core requirements provide exposure to workforce planning, quality of work life, human resource development and the legal environment of personnel. 
     
  • Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology
    Our program gives students a firm foundation of knowledge in an evolving field of study. The coursework applies technological innovations to diverse economic sectors. Graduates of the program qualify for careers in healthcare, business and industry, higher education, and elementary and secondary schools. 
     
  • Master of Science in Software Engineering
    The School of Science and Computer Engineering at UHCL offers the Software Engineering (SWEN) Master of Science to students throughout the United States via online instruction. Graduates earn this degree as part of the UHCL Distance-Learning effort; they need not travel to the UHCL campus. Students pursue coursework over the Internet via the course-delivery platform known as WebCT/Blackboard. The SWEN program accommodates a combination of online and face-to-face classes along with exclusively online instruction.

NOTE: The above Bachelor’s Degrees are FINISHING degrees. The freshman and sophomore level classes must be completed in advance before starting these online programs.
