MATS 2009 Spring Conference

Energy Workshops in Galveston
Looking for hands on materials to each Earth Science TEKS? Eighteen energy workshops have been scheduled for 2009 at the Ocean Star. The first workshops will be January 10 and 17.

Air-O Dynamic Curriculum
Overview of the Air-O Dynamic Curriculum. The Institute embraces the challenge to develop an air quality education initiative designed for Texas educators addressing the air education needs in Texas. 
Air Quality Education Initiative
EIH's Air Quality Education Initiative assists citizens and air quality planners by allowing an estimation of exposure to ozone levels, allowing for photochemical model performance verification, and raising public awareness of ozone levels and associated health risks. 
EIH/UHCL Regional Collaborative
University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Environmental Institute of Houston received a $120,000 grant from the University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Regional Collaborative for Excellence in Science Teaching. 
PLT in the City
This program, developed by the American Forest Foundation, is designed to advance environmental education and environmental stewardship among urban youth. 
San Jacinto Marsh Restoration Project
The San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Park preserve is the oldest and most visited state park in Texas and the site of the Marsh Restoration Project. The Institute uses this location as a centerpiece of their natural history training for teachers of K - 6 children. 
School Habitats
Many schools in the Houston area are creating school habitats so that their students can have outdoor learning experiences. EIH provides many resources available to teachers who want to use the outdoors as a context for learning.

The Envirothon is the largest high school environmental competition, open to any high school student (grades 9 - 12). The Envirothon is an integrated educational experience that will enhance your students' knowledge and environmental literacy.
