Recycling @ UH & UHCL

All student groups and individuals are encouraged to help keep recyclable materials out of the landfills.

Recycling bins for paper, aluminum, and plastic can be found throughout campus. Please do not place trash in recycling bins. Deposit only the material designated on the receptacle.

Rechargeable Battery Recycling @ UHCL

If you haven’t noticed, there are collection boxes situated in several locations around campus (listed below) for rechargeable household type batteries (for example: rechargeable camera or power drill batteries).

Each battery should be placed in one of the plastic bags that are included with the box, or terminal ends taped for multiple batteries in the same bag. This collection box program is available free of charge (including shipping), with each box overseen by a Green Team member to assure the contents meet the recycling criteria and are ready for shipment.

Please note that this is not for Alkaline batteries (which are not rechargeable). Alkaline batteries are non-hazardous and may be discarded in the regular trash.  Larger and other batteries not meeting the recycling criteria must be collected by the Department of Risk Management for appropriate waste treatment and/or disposal.

The rechargeable battery recycling box locations are:

  • In the Library across from the reference desk
  • SSCB Student Lounge
  • Mailroom (coming soon)
  • NOA Building

Printer toner/ink cartridge recycling is available on the UHCL campus as well. You can drop off your empty cartridges in the mailroom.
