General Scholarships

The scholarships listed below are open to most UHCL degree plans.

The application process for these scholarships is available each year during the month of February. Awards are made for the following academic year.

Awards for each scholarship are contingent on availability of funding.

Robert Noyce Scholarship Program in Mathematics

Program Overview

Benefits to Scholar

  • Fully paid tuition and textbooks
  • Exploration of mathematics teaching as a profession
  • Collaboration with peer and faculty mentors
  • Small class size here at UHCL (average 24)
  • Majority of mathematics and pedagogy courses are taught by Ph.D. holding professors
  • Direct access to professors
  • Partnerships with local high-tech, aerospace, biomedical and petrochemical agencies, and industries, such as National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to enhance research and education experiences
  • Opportunities for paid summer internships
  • Seminars, workshops, field trips, and job-shadowing to explore mathematics teaching as a career
  • Opportunities for involvement in University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) Student Government Associations (SGA) including the campus Texas State Teachers Association-Student Program (TSTA‑SP)
  • Opportunities for campus employment (research, mentoring, tutoring, lab support, part-time positions)
  • Membership in Noyce Scholars Student Organization (NSSO) will provide academic success development, tutoring, and mentoring in mathematics
  • Additional focus groups and special events for Noyce Associates
  • Extended lifelong learning with professional development opportunities as Noyce alumni
Eligibility requirements (transfer applicants or current UHCL students):
  • Scholarship applicants must have completed Calculus I with a B or better.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in college within last 60 hours
  • Scholarships require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
  • Socially and economically disadvantaged and/or disabled students, females and ethnic minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 each semester and actively participate in Robert Noyce Scholars Program activities in order to be eligible for renewal each semester.

  • Status: Preference given to students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in the semester of scholarship application
  • Financial Need: Financial need will not be a factor
  • Additional Documentation: Submit a paragraph (500 - 700 words) on how receiving this scholarship will benefit females in the Mexican American community

Billie Fowler International Connections of Houston

    • U. S. citizens and prior recipients of the Billie C. Fowler International Connections of Houston scholarship will not be considered. This scholarship does NOT provide a waiver of non-resident tuition.

  • Status: Undergraduate International student / minimum enrollment 6 hours
  • Financial Need: Financial need will be a factor although International students cannot file a FAFSA
