Hazardous Waste Disposal
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for supervising the safe handling and disposal of all hazardous wastes and materials. Proper disposal of all hazardous waste must be coordinated with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (extension 2106). The following is prohibited:
- Disposal of chemical waste through regular waste containers or dumpsters. Some items may cause fires, explosions, and/or cause property damage and personnel injury.
- Disposal of waste or surplus materials having flammable, combustible, explosive, corrosive, infectious, toxic or radioactive properties via the sewer system.
- Disposal of unknown or uncertain materials without clarification from Environmental Health and Safety.
- Laboratory hazardous waste must be placed in “Red Bags” and autoclaved on a daily basis prior to disposal.
FMC will assist in the disposal of hazardous waste under the supervision of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
