THEA vs. QuickTHEA

Content and Structure - Same
THEA and QuickTHEA are essentially the same test with the equivalent content and structure.

Duration - Same
Participants have 5 hours for each test.

Availability - Different
THEA - Offered 6 times per year on the dates set by the State of Texas and is administered at the same time by all participating institutions.

QuickTHEA - The dates are set by each individual institution according to their own needs and resources. UHCL offers the QuickTHEA multiple times a year, often just prior to the beginning of each semester. UH Central Campus offers QuickTHEA at least once a week. Both UHCL and UH Central are open to the general public.

Cost - Different
THEA and QuickTHEA - Test cost is $29.

QuickTHEA - There is an additional $10 fee when the QuickTHEA is administered at UHCL. Other institutions administration charges may vary.

Results - Different
THEA - Results are mailed within 2 weeks of taking the test.

QuickTHEA - Institutions can receive scores in 4-5 working days.

Retesting - Different
THEA - Can be retaken when offered next because the test is changed with each administration.

QuickTHEA - Requires a 90 day waiting period to retake, because the testing booklet issued by the testing corporation are only changed every 90 days. Only QuickTHEA has a waiting period restriction.

If an individual has taken the THEA, there is no waiting period to take the QuickTHEA. Likewise, if an individual has taken the QuickTHEA, the THEA can be taken immediately afterward.
