UHCL's Mascot History

In summer 2010, a new chapter in the UHCL mascot history opened with the formation of a UHCL Mascot Leadership Team in response to the call for a mascot from students, alumni, faculty and staff.

UHCL’s official mascot search began in fall 2010 and included a five-phase selection process with input from students, alumni, faculty, staff and the community that resulted in selecting the Hawk as the official UHCL mascot. UH-Clear Lake, led by the Mascot Leadership Team, received more than 1,400 submissions from faculty, staff, students, alumni and community friends when the call for mascot suggestions was made.

The five-phase selection process concluded with the presentation of the UH-Clear Lake Hawk mascot art in 2012 and the Hawk costumed character in 2013. During the 2013 I HEART UHCL festivities, the name of the UHCL Hawk mascot was revealed as Hunter the Hawk.
