Since it’s inception in December of 1997, the Office of Training and Development has worked to support and enhance the overall professional growth and development needs for UHCL faculty and staff. The following is a brief description of the available programs, services and resources offered by the Office of Training and Development.

New Employee Orientation is a full day orientation program that new employees are scheduled to attend within the first month of employment a UHCL.  Topics covered include the history of the University, ethics, state mandated EEO & AA policies, safety training, police rules and regulations, an overview of benefits and additional information related to work activities at the university are discussed.

The Office of Training and Development works in collaboration with University Computing and Telecommunications (UCT) to provide and support Computer Based Training programs.

Three specialized training programs, STEM, Stepping Up to Supervisor (SUS) and Leaders In Action (LIA).  The SUS program is self-nominated, and LIA is requires nomination to participate.

The Office of Training and Development played a vital role in revamping the current university Performance Assessment Document, resulting in its use as not only a performance instrument, but a career growth tool as well.  Plainly put, the role of the Performance Assessment tool is, "Enhancing performance through assessing the past and committing to the future".

The Training and Development Specialist is accredited in various instruments and coordinating programs, such as Insights Discovery, which can be used departmentally, individually, and within the special programs maintained by the Office of Training and Development.  Insights Discovery is a personality assessment tool that focuses on self-awareness, and promotes personal and team effectiveness.

Departmental Training and consultations on an “as requested” basis.
