Stepping Up To Supervisor (SUS)
Stepping Up To Supervisor is program designed to enhance the skills of emerging or newly emerged supervisors and managers. The course is offered each fall and spring semester and consists of 8 modules that meet every other week. It is imperative that a commitment be made to attend each of the sessions, as a comprehensive agenda of effective supervisory techniques will be addressed. The modules will be facilitated by the training and development specialist, outside consultants and those with expertise in various areas within the university.
For maximum effectiveness, the program is limited to 10 participants. This is a self-application process. Employees who are interested must submit an application form with the approval of your immediate supervisor. If you are ready to “Step Up to Supervisor”, you are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are available in late June, early July.
Leaders In Action (LIA)
The name says it all…this leadership development series has been designed to enhance the skills of employees working in positions with high levels of accountability and responsibility. The success of an organization rests upon the success of the leaders within that organization. The ability to interact more effectively with team members, influence better decision-making, and take a proactive stance with regard to work opportunities are skills that effective leaders not only possess, but also master.
The enhancement of these skills through this development series should, in all estimations, effect an increase in productivity and promote a more positive overall work morale – for all involved parties. It is with this concept in mind that this series is devoted. Leaders in Action is a nomination based development series to hone the skills of higher-level university employees. Administrators are encouraged to survey those employees with the potential to enhance the overall effectiveness of the university through development of leadership skills and recommend them for participation in the series.
REQUIREMENTS for consideration into the program: The program will consist of 10 modules, each module lasting a full day. In order to successfully complete the program, attendance at all 10 of the modules is mandatory. Failure to attend any of the sessions will result in dismissal from the program. Total commitment by all parties is necessary to ensure the success of this program.
In depth discussions, experiential exercises and dissemination of critical information will be the order of the day. Some modules will require outside completion of assignments. The intent is to form a cornerstone of understanding, and then for each module to build upon the last to result in a better overall understanding of the qualities of an effective leader. These modules will be facilitated by the training and development specialist as well as outside experts in given topics. Not for the faint of heart, this series is designed to transform supervisors from every level of the university into exceptional leaders.
