Chiara DeNeve, foreground, and Rob Weeks, students at Texas A&M University in Galveston, examine their art work painted on the Seawall at 53rd Street. The mural was done for Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network in an effort to draw public attention to the non-profit organization that rescues stranded whales and dolphins found beached along the Texas coast.

In September, 1988 members of the UHCL-DRT participated in a joint project with the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network to paint two murals on Galveston's seawall. The first, depicted in the newspaper clipping above, depicts various marine mammals which have been sighted or which have stranded along the Texas coast.

The bottlenose dolphin is the species commonly seen around Galveston Island.

The roughtooth dolphin found offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Risso's dolphin is found offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
