Welcome to the Clinical Psychology Program at UHCL! |
The Clinical Psychology Program at UHCL offers an MA degree and provides academic coursework and clinical training and supervisions that prepare graduate students for careers in the mental health field. The Program's curriculum also meets the requirements for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Psychological Associate in Texas.
The program is a 63-hour program that features courses in psychopathology, psychological assessment of cognitive and personality functioning, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to individual and group psychotherapy. Advanced training also is available in more specialized areas such as the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders, behavioral medicine, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The program includes a two-semester internal clinical practicum and a 500-hour external clinical internship during which students practice under the direct supervision of a practicing psychologist or other appropriately licensed mental health practitioner.
Outside of the classroom, students will find a number of other opportunities to enhance their educational experience. For example, many of our students work with faculty on research teams or on individual research projects. Students engaged in research often present their work at local and national academic conferences or co-author manuscripts. The Clinical Psychology Students Association (CPSA) is a program-affiliated campus organization which promotes the professional development of students through social networking and community service. Many of our students also actively participate in local community professional organizations such as the Houston LPC Association and the Houston Psychological Association.
