Family Therapy Student Association
Purpose and Objectives:
To promote the common professional development of those who are interested in Marriage and Family Therapy. It shall also attempt to provide an informational forum for educational, networking and social opportunities, and a chance to share knowledge and experience.
This organization will hold general membership meetings, provide continuing education for students and the community, support family therapy program projects, contribute to the educational resources at the university, publish information on student activities, and co-operate with other professional groups in furthering the profession of family therapy.

Among the many opportunities that are made possible through this membership driven organization:
- Regular monthly meetings. A time for the board members and student members to meet together to discuss upcoming events and to network with other students in the Family Therapy program.
- Affiliation with local, state, and national professional organizations. Furthering the profession of Marriage and Family Therapy. Includes relationship with Houston Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (HAMFT), Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (TAMFT), & American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
- 5K/1K Family Fun Run. An annual event put on by the members of FTSA. This is an event used to raise money for a charity of the organization’s choosing, and to raise money for FTSA in order to provide financial aid to the student members.
- Welcome Party/Holiday Party/Graduation Party. A time to meet each other, get to know each other, establish networking ties for the future, and to celebrate those who have completed the program. The Welcome Party is in August, the Holiday Party in December, and the Graduation Party in May for all students in the Family Therapy program.
- The FTSA Newsletter. An informative periodic publication produced by students highlighting recent events and important MFT related announcements.
