School Psychology Program
UHCL’s School Psychology specialist’s program prepares you for a career in assessing and intervening to meet the academic, psychological and behavioral needs of school-age students in public schools. Our program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists and nationally recognized by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Develop Your Expertise
- Study the foundations of psychology and education, assessment and intervention for academic and behavioral problems, and consultation
- Participate in a one-year, 400-hour practicum where you’ll experience assessment and parent consultations, learn about school district practices and policies, and work with a public school-based Licensed Specialist in School Psychology
- Benefit from a one-year paid internship in a public school under the supervision of a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology who also is a licensed psychologist
Investigate Your Career Opportunities
As a graduate of this program, you can work in schools in roles such as:
- Behavior specialist
- Diagnostician
- Licensed Specialist in School Psychology
If you seek additional credentials, such as the Licensed Psychological Associate, work is available in mental health agencies, clinics or hospitals under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
