"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand."
  — Woodrow Wilson

Welcome to the Public Service Leadership Program at the University of Houston-Clear Lake

From government positions in leadership and management, firefighting, police work and even the world of nonprofits, the public service sector needs qualified leaders. UHCL’s Public Service Leadership program helps current public service employees like you develop the best tool set to problem solve and take on challenging leadership positions.

Develop Your Expertise

  • Enjoy interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes leadership, management skills, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and organizational communication
  • Discover the processes of bringing group members to a consensus to achieve positive results
  • Gain understanding of the role people management plays in governance
  • Receive theoretical and hands-experience that you can immediately apply in your job, even before you graduate

As a student, you also have the option of a sub-plan in fire services administration.

Investigate Your Career Options
Graduates of the UHCL Public Service Leadership program are ready to provide on-the-spot solutions and long-term planning – valuable skills in the public and private sector. After graduation you prepared for careers as a leader and/or manager in local, state and federal agencies as well as a firefighter or police officer.

Build Your Network
As a UHCL student, learn alongside peers who are at a similar level in their professional pursuits.  As you progress through the program, you will have a new forum for networking and sharing new problem solving techniques and ideas.
