General Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree
in Human Sciences and Humanities

A total of 120 semester hours of applicable college credits.

A maximum of three hours of lower-level “activity” courses may be counted toward the 120 needed for graduation. No more than 18 hours of previously earned lower-level credit may have been taken by correspondence and/or extension courses.

At least 60 semester hours of upper-level work.

A minimum of 48 hours of upper-level must be completed with grades of “C” or better. Grades of C- and below are not acceptable.

At least 30 hours of the degree program, including 12 hours of courses in the major field, taken in residence at UHCL and the last 30 hours must be taken at UHCL.

A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on coursework at UHCL.

Undergraduate General Education Requirements
for the Humanities and Fine Arts programs

3 Hours – Writing	WRIT 3037 – Advanced Writing
3 Hours – Basic Texts	(Choose one) HUMN 3031 – Western Tradition I HUMN 3033 – Western Tradition II HUMN 3035 – Non-Western Tradition
3 Hours – Human Sciences	(Choose one) ANTH 3131 – Contemporary Cultural Anthropology ANTH 4532 – World Prehistory and Archaeology PSYC 3331 – Theories of Personality PSYC 4131 – Social Psychology SOCI 3135 – Sociological Thinking SOCI 4132 – Social Structure SOCI 4232 – Theories of Society
The above nine hours must be completed with a grade of C or better. Grades of C- or below are not acceptable.

In addition to these General Education Requirements and the specific program requirements, you may need additional electives hours to reach the required total hours.
