Step 3:
BSW Application Process
Criteria for Acceptance
We expect social work applicants to have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in course work taken prior to applying to the BSW program. Students with GPAs lower than 2.5 are encouraged to apply and may be admitted if faculty determine other admission criteria are suitably strong. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your viability as a social work candidate.
As part of the application process, students have the opportunity to demonstrate their writing abilities through a 5-7 page autobiographical statement. This statement allows BSW faculty to determine whether the student has the writing skills necessary to successfully perform in the BSW program. Applicants should be certain that their autobiographical statement is a fair sample of their ability to express themselves in writing. The statement should include the following details:
- A description of your educational, work and/or life goals
- Your career objectives
- Any contact and/or exposure to diverse groups
- Any social work experience
- Any other information you would like us to consider with your application
A personal interview may also be required as part of the admissions process.
We accept BSW admission applications throughout the year.
Students may submit their applications prior to completing all of the requirements listed above and be eligible for Conditional or Probationary Admission Status.
