Career Prospects with Literature and English Degrees

“What are you going to do?”

Literature majors get used to hearing the question.

While some Literature majors plan careers in education, others discover a wide range options and possibilities. Many of our students’ careers move in and out of educational institutions to corporations and nonprofits. In addition to teaching, many practice writing, communications, and training.

The skills that our major develops turn out to be exactly what many offices and institutions need. These skills include processing information, critical thinking, cultural literacy, and communication skills. As creative individuals, Literature majors often invent themselves and their jobs, either on their own or within corporate and nonprofit contexts.
