Egypt in Transition:
Ancient Civilization to Modern Society

Since the beginning of recorded history there has been a fascination with the Middle East region of the world. This interest has increased since the events of September 11, 2001 as citizens from the West in general and the United States in particular desire to learn more about the region and Islamic culture. Sitting at the crossroads of the Gulf Area and Sub- Saharan Africa, Egypt enjoys a pivotal position in the history and politics of the region as well as the wider Islamic world. This course is for the novice interested in learning more about Egypt’s history, people, culture, and society. Through an International Learning Component (ILC) students will travel to Egypt exploring and learning as they complete a research project that will increase bonds among Egyptians and Americans.
