UHCL HUMAN SPACE FLIGHT COLLECTION

The UHCL Human Space Flight Collection was created in July 2001 to document how employment by the space program affected JSC employees, their family and their community.

Personal papers also offer insight into the history and operation of human space flight that otherwise may be lost by relying only on official administrative records. They reveal professional interests and opinions that frequently clarify matters mentioned in official records. Personal viewpoints expressed in personal correspondence and documentation resulting from service may provide a better basis for understanding the program and the growth of the community.   Every effort will be made not to collect items that are duplicated in additional repositories, including the National Archives. This may include government publications, handbooks, and published reports.

Examples of desirable items:

* Personal Correspondence - describing employment with NASA

* Reports - final research, summary of activities, special studies created by donor.

* Photographs- personal prints, negatives, or slides documenting personal attendance at NASA  events  or informal gatherings. Film and video will also be considered. No official NASA published photos as   these are duplicated elsewhere.

* Personal notes regarding meetings of any boards, councils, committees within Johnson Space Center.

* Original schematics or other drawings.

* Drafts and manuscripts of articles and books written by the donor

* Personal diaries, journals, scrapbooks, notebooks and memorabilia documenting donor's involvement with manned space flight missions.

* Biographical material -resumes, vitae, bibliographies, biographical and autobiographical sketches, chronologies, and news- paper clippings about the donor.

* Material documenting how a spouse participated in supporting the Clear Lake community, including journals, diaries, scrapbooks, and correspondence.

Collections are selected for preservation in the Archives primarily because of their historical research value.

Donations become the sole and irrevocable property of the UHCL University Archives.

Every private donor has the right to impose reasonable restrictions upon his or her papers to protect confidentiality for a reasonable period of time. Restrictions on access are for a fixed term and will be determined at the time of donation. We require a specific release date and encourage minimal access restrictions.

Any items donated that do not fall within our collection scope may be returned to the donor.

If you believe you have material that could be considered for the UHCL Human Space Flight Collection, please contact the UHCL Archivist, Shelly Kelly, at 281-293-3936 or email at kellysh@uhcl.edu
