The purpose of the reserve collection in the Neumann Library is to make REQUIRED ADDITIONAL READING available to a class.

Faculty may place library-owned or personal copies of class readings on reserve at the Circulation Desk. Reserve materials may have a 2-hour, 1-, 3-, or 7-day loan period.

E-reserves: Additionally, we can make your course reserves (journal articles, single book chapters, or class notes) available online for your students through our e-reserves system. If the material is available through our full-text databases, we will create a persistent link to the article. If not, we can also take your digital material (or scan it for you). These passworded documents will be available to your students anywhere they have access to the Internet. Fair use copyright guidelines apply.

Reserve materials can be identified in the library catalog by either the course rubric and number (example: mgmt 5331) or by the professor's name (example: carter). All copyright restrictions concerning any photocopied material to be placed on reserve are followed.  Reserves Desk Location

Place Items on Course Reserve

Course Reserves Request Forms can be filled out online, printed and brought in to the Library, or filled out online and e-mailed to library@uhcl.edu

Fill out a separate form for each class.
Fill out all boxes, using the TAB key to move from one to the other. To ensure proper description of your class materials, enter your full name, suite number, telephone extension / phone number, course rubric (MGMT 4444 each box takes 4 characters), and course name (as printed in the class schedule) .

In the first column, if the item is a personal copy, leave that field blank. If the item is our library owned book, please write the call number, (HV 2345 .S87 1999).

The shaded column should be left blank.

In the CITATION area, enter the complete citation. Examples are listed at the bottom of the form.

Enter the number of copies in the 4th column.

Loan periods are listed on the top part of the form, A - D. Indicate by the letter the time you want the item to circulate, and whether or not you want the material to be used in - library or out - of - library.

PLEASE NOTE: The time required to process reserve requests varies with the workload of the unit, the availability of materials, and the accuracy of the information supplied on the forms. Materials are processed in order of receipt.

To ensure that your students have access to reserve materials in the first week of class, please submit your lists at least two weeks before the first day of class. After the beginning of each semester, a minimum of three working days (Monday - Friday) is generally required to place materials on reserve.

Reserve requests for purchase of books that the library does not own should be submitted at least six weeks before the first day of class to ensure timely placement on reserve. If the book is out of print or otherwise unobtainable, you will be notified.

There is no limit set on the number of titles a faculty member may place on reserve; however, lists of 50 titles or more should be discussed with the Access Services librarian (Frances Roppolo, 281-283-3918 or ROPPOLO@UHCL.EDU)

All materials will be removed from reserve status at the end of each semester. If personal materials are not picked up at the end of the semester, they will be delivered to the suite secretary within two weeks.
