1. How do I get to the library databases?
From the library homepage, click on Databases A-Z , or click on Databases by Subject followed by an appropriate academic subject link (Business, Education, etc.). You can use your browser's Bookmark or Favorites commands to save pages for future use.
|
2. How do I access databases from off-campus?
When you try to access a subscription database from off-campus, you will be prompted to enter your last name and library barcode numer (printed on the back of your UHCL ID card: 200 and the seven digits of your UHCL student or employee ID number). For additional information, see Off-Campus Access.
|
3. How do I get full text for an article?
When a database includes full text for an article, the results list or full citation record will have links for PDF Full Text, HTML Full Text, or Linked Full Text. Follow those links until the article is displayed. If no such links are provided, look for an Article Linker or Check for possible full text link, or search the name of the journal in UHCL Electronic Journals List to check whether full text is provided in a different database or directly from the publisher. If there is no full text available, see document delivery options from Interlibrary Loan service. If you want to know whether the library has a paper or microform serial subscription, do a journal title search in the Library Catalog.
|
4. How can I tell if the library has an online, electronic journal?
For the most comprehensive and up-to-date information on the library's electronic journals, search the name of the journal in UHCL Electronic Journals List (also identified in the library website's main navigation menu as Ejournals List). You also may try a journal title search in the Library Catalog, which includes selected ejournal records.
|
5. Are library databases available after I graduate?
Most Neumann Library subscription databases may be used by any library visitor, but off-campus access is restricted by license to current UHCL students, faculty, and staff. After you graduate, you may have access to some subscription databases through your local public library or employer. Neumann Library also includes some free, public access databases on its website. These are identified with a special icon and include resources such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's EDGAR database of corporate reports.
|
6. Which databases are appropriate for my topic?
The library's Research a Topic webpage includes links to academic subject resource pages, which identify appropriate databases for various disciplines (Art, Business, Chemistry, etc.). The subject pages, as well as the Databases A-Z page, include information links that describe the content of each database and links to available how-to guides. If in doubt, consult a Reference Librarian (281-283-3910).
