1. How do I log on to the library computers?
The library computers do not require a special log in account. At the login screen with the Guest username, press the “Enter” or “Return” key to login.

2. What software is available on the library computers?
All library computers are Internet ready and have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, Word, Excel and PowerPoint installed Workstation Clusters D and F have special software installed at the request of faculty. Consult a Reference librarian (281-283-3910 or library@uhcl.edu) for more details.

3. How do I check my email?
You can check your university and commercial email accounts using any one of the library computers. Check your UHCL Email at webmail.uhcl.edu. For all commercial email accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo, point the browser to the appropriate web page and log on to your individual account.

4. How do I check out a laptop?
Neumann Library no longer checks out laptops. Anyone with a current UHCL ID can check out a laptop at the UCT Support center (Bayou 2300), or the open computing labs in Bayou, Delta and SSCB.

5. Where can I plug in my personal laptop?
For your convenience, the library has wired carrels on both floors where you can plug in your laptop. See wired carrels near Microfiche Area on the first level, as well as wired carrels near Juvenile Collection on the second level. All single or group Study Rooms also have electrical outlets.

6. Will my laptop work with the university's wireless network?
With the correct setup, you can access the wireless network with your UHCL User ID and Login. To learn more about accessing UHCL's wireless network, consult the UHCL PEAP Wireless Network page. At the bottom of that page there are links to documentation and examples of setup for Windows Vista, Windows XP, and MAC OS 10.3 or greater.

7. How do I open a file from or save it to a flash drive?

To open a file:
- Insert the flash drive into a USB port on the front of the PC.
- Open My Computer.
- Navigate to the file you want to open and double-click it.
- The appropriate program will launch with your file open.

To save a file:
- Select the "Save As" menu choice for saving the file in the program in which you are working
- In the Save As dialog box, click the down arrow at the right of the Save in field.
- Choose the drive letter that represents your flash drive
- Check the File name and Save as type selections if needed
- Click the Save button

Be sure to click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the task bar at the bottom right of the screen and waiting for the safe message before removing the flash drive
