1. Do I need a library card?
You may use library resources while you are in the library without a library card. However, you are required to present a valid ID card to check out materials. For UHCL students, faculty and staff, your student or employee ID card is your library card. Contact the Student Services Office to obtain an UHCL ID card. Your UHCL ID card also entitles you to check out items directly at any of the UH campus libraries. Community users may check out items from the Neumann Library if one of these accepted cards is presented.

2. Is there a limit to how many books I can borrow at one time?
There is no limit to the number of books you can check out from this library if you are UHCL/UH/UHD students, faculty, staff, or JSC/NASA registered users. However, outstanding fines or unreturned library materials will result in a loss of borrowing privileges and a block on your academic or employee record. Other affiliated users of the Neumann Library usually will have a borrowing limit of four titles at one time. Contact the Circulation Desk (281-283-3900) for more information.

3. How do I see what I have checked out and renew materials online?
You can log in to your library account to view your library record and renew materials online through the Library Catalog.
|
4. How many times can I renew something?
Most items can be renewed 3 times, but there are exceptions. For details about this regulation, see UHCL Neumann Library renewal policies.
|
5. Does the library charge fines for overdue materials?
Neumann Library charges fines only for recalled and reserve materials that are overdue. Laptops accrue late fines of $20 for any part of an hour. See a list of the charges for overdue recalled or reserve materials.

6. What if I need a book that's checked out?
All you need to do is to place a "Request" on the item that currently is checked out. A hold request can be made directly in the Library Catalog by following these steps. You will be notified by email when the book is ready to pick up.
|
7. What if I need something that the library doesn't own?
Materials not owned by Neumann Library may be requested online through the Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan services. Interlibrary Loan is available only to UHCL students, faculty, staff, and registered NASA/JSC patrons. Document Delivery is available only to UHCL faculty, staff, and registered NASA/JSC patrons. The length of time it takes to receive materials depends upon the shipping method employed by the lending library. Most libraries now send articles electronically, but other shipping methods may take up to two weeks. On average, please allow a minimum of ten days to receive items requested.

8. Do I need a TexShare card?
Only currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a TexShare card. You need a TexShare card if you wish to check out items directly and return items at one of the TexShare participating institutions. You will not need a TexShare card to check out items at other UH campus libraries because your UHCL ID already entitles you to borrowing privileges at those libraries. You will not be able to use a TexShare card at Rice University because Rice does not participate in the Texshare card program (full time UHCL faculty may, however, apply for a HARLiC card in order to have borrowing privileges at Rice). Apply for your TexShare card at the Reference Desk.
