New Student Orientation Leaders

Applications are available for our Spring 2015 Orientation Leaders!

Position Description

Orientation Leaders are student volunteers who assist the Office of Orientation and New Student Programs in the operation of New Student Orientation (NSO) and Student Orientation & Registration Days (SOAR), as well as other ONSP programs.

The average time commitment for O-Leaders is 8-10 hours per session to ensure the success of orientation. The minimum expectations and responsibilities for O-Leaders include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with a team of orientation leaders and professional staff during orientation
  • Assist with the organization, planning and implementation of orientation activities
  • Serve as a mentor to new students during and after orientation
  • Assist in logistics like check-in, resource fairs, tours, setup, presentations, greeting, etc.
  • Respond to student and parent questions about UHCL and campus services
  • Facilitate small group discussions among incoming students

Requirements

  • 2.5 GPA and is in good standing with the university
  • Enrolled in classes through Spring 2015
  • Work at least three orientation sessions
  • Attended one information session and all mandatory trainings held in the Student Orgs Room (SSCB 1.202.07)
  • Attended a scheduled interview for the selection process

    Hawk Guides

    Hawk Guides are a 3-member student orientation committee responsible for planning and the implementation of New Student Orientation and Student Orientation and Registration Days. They serve as mentors to the Orientation Team and dedicate one full year to Orientation and New Student Programs.
