International Orientation (IO) Leader Application

New International Student Orientation - Spring 2015

What is an International Orientation (IO) Leader?

International Orientation (IO) Leader is a volunteer student leadership position for all current UHCL students. IO Leaders assist in the New International Student Orientation Programs run by the Office of International Admissions and Programs. The programs include Airport Pick Ups, the International Gateway Series, New International Student Orientation, and Make Up Orientation. OIAP is now accepting applications for IO Leaders.

Position Description and Expectations

IO Leaders fulfill the following tasks and expectations within their volunteer leadership position:

  • Assist with conducting the following programs: Airport Pickups, International Gateway Series, New International Student Orientation, and Make Up Orientation.
  • Work with a team of IO Leaders, Student Diplomats, and OIAP Staff.
  • Mentor new international students through friendly interaction.
  • Perform program logistics such as greeting, check-in and out, tours, group leaders, room moderators, resource fairs, etc.
  • Answer student questions about UHCL and Clear Lake.
  • Be on time and professional.
  • The average time commitment for IO Leaders is 10 - 15 hours depending on how many programs they assist. At a minimum IO Leaders must volunteer for at least one of the two New International Student Orientation days which are January 14 and 15, 2015.

Application Process

Applications are available through Tuesday, November 11 at 5 PM.  Interested students must fill out the application form which can be found below.  Students will be invited for an interview with OIAP staff members which will be held on November 13 and 14.  Students selected as an IO Leader must attend the Mandatory Training Session on November 21 from 10 AM to 4 PM (lunch will be provided).  

**Please note to be a Spring 2015 IO Leader, you must apply even if you have served as an IO Leader in the past or have applied to serve as an Orientation Leader for SOAR/NSO as this is a separate leadership opportunity.
