Charitable Endeavors
The University of Houston–Clear Lake Police Department constantly strives to become a member of the Clear Lake community. To that end, during the Holiday Season 2007, UHCL Police Department partnered with the Bay Area Turning Point to bring Holiday Cheer to the women and children living at the shelter for battered and abused families.
The Police Department took donations from the UHCL community and developed partnerships with various Clear Lake vendors to supply enough new toys to provide each child with a healthy bag of gifts, and each woman a large plush teddy bear. Officers of the department, along with the University of Houston Cougar mascot and Santa Claus made the delivery on Christmas Eve. It was a touching moment reminding everyone about the strength of the Spirit of the Holidays.
The 2007 and 2008 holiday endeavors were such a success we have committed to bringing cheer to the Bay Area Turning Point year around with monthly birthday parties and seasonal holiday fun in 2009, and again in 2010. UHCL students and staff are encouraged to contribute to this worthwhile effort.
We have also added Falcon Creek Elementary as a partner and began presenting safety programs for the kids in Spring 2010.
