The University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department is organized into four component: Field Operations, Technical Services, Crime Prevention and Investigations and the Office of Professional Standards. Each components commander reports directly to the Chief of Police.

The Office of the Chief of Police manages all university law enforcement and security functions. The Chief directs the mission of the department, assuring its support of the University’s goals and objectives. The Chief of Police manages the department's budget and resources so as to be a good steward of the public funds in which it has been entrusted.
The Chief of Police is charged with emergency management planning and operations. In this role, the Chief develops, tests and implements response plans for special events, foreseable weather emergencies and sudden incidents.
The Chief of Police also serves as the University's Parking Manager. In that role the Chief works with Shared Governance to establish University regulations, fine structures, appeals processes and special accommodations for non-standard parking needs.

The Office of Professional Standards is a unit specifically charged with assuring the University Police Department operates under the highest ethical climate and adheres to established best practices of the law enforcement service.
The Office of Professional Standards consists of a Law Enforcement Compliance Officer and a Civilian Police Supervisor, as well as several student employees. The Office of Professional Standards focuses on many of the behind the scene activities vital to quality assurance, customer service and proactive law enforcement success.
The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for Accreditation, Internal Affairs, Public Information, Records, Staff Inspections, Supply and Student Employment / Internship Programs.
