  Office of the Chief of Police

The Office of the Chief of Police manages all University law enforcement and safety issues.  The Chief directs the mission of the Department, assuring its support of the University’s goals and objectives.

The Chief of Police administers the Department’s resources so as to be a good steward of the public funds in which it has been entrusted.  Working closely with other campus administrators, students and faculty the Chief of Police develops programs, initiatives and practices to aid in providing a secure atmosphere conducive to the education, employment and daily community lifestyles of the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

The Field Operations Division of the University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department is arguably the most visible division of the Police Department.  They are the men and women in uniform who patrol the buildings and streets of the University. 

 

The Field Operations Division consists of three squads(Day Squad, Evening Squad and Midnight Squad) covering 24-hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.  Each squad is led by a Police Sergeant who reports directly to the Field Operations Commander. 

 

The Field Operations Commander is a Police Lieutenant.  The Field Operations Commander also serves as the Assistant Chief and commands the department when the Chief of Police is out of town, in training, or otherwise unavailable.

 

The Field Operations Division is also responsible for:

 

        ·        Victim/Witness Assistance

·         Bike Patrol

·         Traffic Enforcement

·         Parking Enforcement

·         Charitable Community Endeavors

·         Community Outreach and Crime Prevention

·         Motorist Assistance

The Police Support Services Division of the University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department is the civilian support division of the department.  The members of this division provide vital support to the Department’s uniform personnel, as well as interact with the community in regards to police records, parking permits, fines, and general information.

The Police Support Services Division Commander is an Assistant Director.  The Assistant Director is a civilian, with specialized training in police support operations and best practice standards.

 

The Police Support Services Division consists of three units: 

 

The Police Dispatch Unit, which like their police officer counterparts serve 24-hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.  The Police Dispatchers handle all incoming calls for service, serve customers at the window, provide computer, communication and logistics support for officers in the field, and a myriad of other administrative responsibilities.

 

The Records Unit processes and files all paperwork generated by the department, assures court document delivery, maintains criminal records, traffic and parking fine records, and processes open record requests.

 

The Access Control Unit manages all the University’s electronic locks and keys for the University’s patented mechanical lock system.  Electronic pass code and key control flows through this unit.

 

The Police Support Services Division is also responsible for:

·         Police Supply and Equipment

·         Department Computer Support

·         Procurement Research

·         Closed Circuit Television Surveillance

The Office of Professional Standards of the University of Houston-Clear Lake Police Department is a Division set up specifically to assure the University Police Department is operating under the highest ethical climate and adhering to established best practices of the law enforcement service. 

 

The Office of Professional Standards Division Commander is a Lieutenant who reports directly to the Chief of Police.  The Office of Professional Standards also includes a Detective Sergeant and Detective who focus on criminal investigations, department training and university preparedness for emergencies.
