University of Houston-Clear Lake strengthens the Bay Area Houston region and beyond. With more than 8,000 students, UHCL offers 40 undergraduate and 45 graduate degree programs, including a doctoral program, through its four schools including the School of business, School of Education, School of Human Sciences and Humanities, and the School of Science and Computer Engineering.
The university proudly boasts more than 52,000 alumni, many graduates serving as leaders in a variety of sectors such as aerospace, education, health care and art. A majority of our alumni stay in the Houston-Galveston metropolitan region, actively engaged in the economic success of the area, so we know that we and they make a difference.
Our faculty, staff and current students enhance the community with their many collaborative efforts receiving national recognition. In 2010, the Corporation for National and Community Service named UHCL to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the second consecutive year.
he Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities has designated UHCL as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, which means that Hispanic students at UHCL make up 25 percent or more of the university's undergraduate enrollment. UHCL also was recognized for its diverse student population when it was selected as one of the Top 40 Master's Institutions in the United States for International Student Enrollment in the Institute of International Education's Open Doors 2009 Report on International Educational Exchange.
UHCL Pearland Campus opened its doors in fall 2010 in partnership with the City of Pearland. Pearland city officials requested a university for their residents, and UH-Clear Lake was prepared to fulfill that request. The new satellite campus welcomed more than 500 students and continues to grow, which figuratively and literally shows the support and need for our university to have a campus in the Pearland area.
In the future, UHCL will have even more to offer the Bay Area and beyond with the addition of freshman- and sophomore-level courses. Downward expansion, for which we received authority for from the Texas Legislature in 2011, required the hard work and dedication of university representatives, as well as state legislators, community leaders, and business and educational partners.
UHCL continues to succeed, and we realize that this success is dependent on many people and factors; but the most important is you – our donors, alumni and community partners. And for that, I thank you.
