President's Message
University of Houston-Clear Lake creates opportunities for student success, academic excellence and community advancement. And, it has been doing so for more than three decades thanks to the personal connections people have with the university. The experiences of those who have a shared history with UHCL, several of whom are featured in the following pages, set the foundation for those who will be part of its future.
With the number of its alumni approaching 50,000, UHCL’s connections within the community continue to strengthen. And, its reach continues to expand through collaborative initiatives such as construction of the UHCL Pearland Campus, creation of reverse articulation agreements with community colleges and establishment of the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.
A partnership-oriented, community-minded institution, UHCL garnered national recognition in 2008 when The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching selected UHCL for its Community Engagement Classification. This distinction recognizes our curricular engagement, outreach and partnerships throughout Bay Area Houston.
At a time when our economy is experiencing significant challenges, your support of UHCL, particularly our students, faculty and academic programs, is more important than ever. To improve our region’s economic well-being and quality of life, UHCL focuses on the areas of aerospace and related fields; teacher preparation and educational leadership; art; health care; community college transfer success; and graduate studies.
You are key partners in the university’s progress. On behalf of the university family, I offer sincere appreciation for your efforts to assure UHCL’s future success.
