UH-Clear Lake hosts annual conference for research, creative arts
In 1994, two University of Houston-Clear Lake professors developed the Student Conference for Research & Creative Arts as a venue for students to present their original work in a professional format that would help them prepare for professional and academic careers. Thirty-one UH-Clear Lake students presented at the conference. Last year’s conference attracted more than 250 authors from 18 colleges and universities and the 2009 event, slated for April 22-23, is expecting an even more diverse array of presenters.
“The benefits to students who present at the Conference are a hands-on training experience, an opportunity to network with other students in similar fields, exposure to other activities students are participating in, information to include on their résumés and online publication of their work,” explained Michael Hunt, co-founder of the event and program coordinator for the conference.
The call for papers for the 2009 conference currently is under way with a submission deadline of March 9. This interdisciplinary conference with undergraduate and graduate students represents research in a variety of fields including biology, physics, computer science, psychology, sociology, education, fine arts and creative writing. Presentations can include oral sessions, posters sessions, symposia or even a poetry coffee house-style session.
The registration fee is $20 for up to four authors and $5 for each additional author. Instructions for responding to the call for papers can be found at http://www.uhcl.edu/researchartsconference. For more information, call 281-283-3374 or e-mail studentconf@uhcl.edu.
