Nominations sought for alumni awards
University of Houston-Clear Lake alumni continue to play an important role in the community and each year the university strives to recognize those alumni by presenting the UH-Clear Lake Alumni Association awards. Nominations for UH-Clear Lake’s Distinguished Alumni, Early Achievement, Leadership Service, and the Outstanding Professor Awards are being accepted through April 30.
“There are many UH-Clear Lake graduates who have succeeded professionally or who are actively involved in civic or professional organizations, benefiting their community or employer,” said Charity Ellis, director of alumni and community relations. “With the UH-Clear Lake Alumni Association Awards, we acknowledge the diversity of our alumni and celebrate their successes.”
First presented in 1984, the Distinguished Alumni Award honors UH-Clear Lake alumni who have either earned a degree or completed a certificate program whose exceptional contributions in both the workplace and community serve as a model for future graduates and reflect positively on the university.
UH-Clear Lake alumni 45 years of age or younger with notable accomplishments in her/his business, community service, university commitment or involvement in the Alumni Association may be nominated for the Early Achievement Award. The Leadership Service Award honors alumni who have contributed to the university community through his/her leadership and service.
For the third year, the Outstanding Professor Award will be presented to a professor (current at the time of the nomination) who has made a difference to students both inside and outside of the classroom. This commitment may have been through mentoring, involvement in student organizations or embracing innovative teaching that both educates and inspires.
The 2009 award recipients will be recognized at the annual alumni celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center, 2500 South Shore Blvd., League City.
